2011 Market Trends
In spite of a complicated and unclear 2010 market for 2011 renewals (the major climatic events of 2010 have weighed down upon company profit and loss accounts) businesses presenting the best technical profile have been able to benefit fully from a very apathetic market.
It is also interesting to note that activity sectors considered till today to be in difficulty have finally benefited from the necessary fall in the claim rate and favourable legal precedents to allow for the entry of new operators or a return of historical players, putting positive pressure on prices.
When it comes to goals for 2012, there are two main questions to be asked:
- Are insurers going to anticipate the effects of the introduction of SOLVENCY 2 by putting pressure on prices in order to amass spoils of war?
- What will be the scandal effects of the MEDIATOR on the “Civil Responsibility” guarantee market? Should we fear a snowball effect on other products and laboratories? Could we envisage a crisis similar to that of the medical branch in 2002 and the asbestos scandal, with similar repercussions?
